How to: Reset the BIOS passwords.
Solution:
Disconnect the CMOS chip battery, and then reconnect the battery.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard! Make sure the power is turned off and the external power cables have been disconnected before removing the computer cover.
CAUTION 1: This task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION 2: Improperly connecting the CMOS battery can cause permanent damage to the CMOS chip.
CAUTION 3: Please observe steps to reduce the potential damage to computer components from electrostatic discharge.
NOTE 1: Disconnecting the CMOS chip battery will erase the BIOS information, and require that BIOS setup be run to configure the system hardware. If you do not know or have a hard copy of the BIOS settings, DO NOT DISCONNECT the CMOS chip battery, and contact next-level support or a qualified computer technician, before proceeding any further.
NOTE 2: You must have the computer user manual to complete the following steps.
1) Disconnect the power cords from the computer and remove the computer cover.
2) Disconnect the CMOS chip battery.
NOTE 1: Refer to the computer's user manual for the type and location of the CMOS battery.
NOTE 2: If you are unable to disconnect the CMOS battery, contact next-level support or the BIOS manufacturer.
3) Reconnect the CMOS chip battery.
4) Replace the computer cover, and reconnect the power cords.
NOTE: Refer to the computer user manual for instructions on how to connect the CMOS chip battery.
5) Turn on the computer, run the BIOS setup, and configure the BIOS for the hardware components in your computer.
NOTE: Refer to your computer user manual for instructions on how to run the BIOS setup program.
6) Save the new BIOS settings, exit from the BIOS setup, and reboot the computer.
